what is fostering?Fostering is a powerful and transformational intervention system that ensures that children in need of care and protection find it within a family setting. In the UK, foster care accounts for over 75% of all children in care. In 2019, there were over 55,000 children in foster care. Over 4,500 of these were in Scotland. Every year that number increases and so does the need for loving foster carers.
Children are placed in care for vaiours reasons including neglect and abuse. Depending on their situation, they may need anything from short term care (emergency, respite, etc) to long term care (forever families). |
what is a forever family?What do we mean by a ‘Forever Family’? For some children in care, although they have contact with their birth parents, returning home is neither possible nor desirable. They need the security of permanence.
Moving a child from one set of carers to another does not help them through their emotional and behavioural difficulties; in fact, it generally exacerbates the situation. They need to work through their pain and know that they belong and are in a safe place, without fearing that one bad move will lead to further rejection. Our carers are committed to providing stable family life for as long as the children need them – even beyond their time in care – while at the same time preparing them for adult independence. |

why foster with us?Foundations Matter is the only evangelical Christian Fostering Organisation in the Scotland. We are driven by a deep understanding of the Christian core value of caring for the vulnerable. For Christian carers who choose to foster, we can provide a safe and supportive environment that will help you care for some of the most vulnerable children in the UK. We specialise in finding homes for "hard to place" children because for us, no one is hard to love. With our training and support, our carers are able to intervene and give forever families to children who might not find another family.
